Since the 2011 revolution, US travelers have not been interested in visiting Egypt after some unrest and other incidents throughout the country. However, 2019 is looking to be a strong year for Egypt travel based on what tour operators and other travel advisors that specialize in the destination.

Why is Egypt Travel Making a Comeback?

Many are crediting the higher interest in Egypt to the relative calm the country has experienced over the past couple years. Many avid travelers have Egypt on their bucket list of destinations but have put it off due to past issues of safety. Baby Boomers in particular avoided Egypt because of geopolitical reasons, and now want to visit while they are still able to.

This higher interest in Egypt travel is not just from the US, many large European tour operators are also seeing a surge. In the first nine months of 2018, arrivals were up 40 percent, according to the Egyptian tourism ministry.

Is Egypt Safe to Travel?

While there were travel safety concerns regarding Egypt in the past, you can now feel comfortable booking an Egypt vacation. If you are looking for areas to avoid, the Sinai Peninsula (except Sharm El-Sheikh) was not the safest area in 2018 so if you want to be extra careful you can stay away.
