7 Day Itinerary: A Toast To The Gold Coast

For most of us, traveling to your vacation in Australia can certainly be a process. But once you’re there, you’ll understand why the long flights were worth the wait.

In addition to the bragging rights you observe when the co-workers ask how many continents you’ve traveled to, Australia has a unique culture that is unlike any other place in the world. From the amazing beaches to the distinct wildlife native to the land to the amazing cuisines and dishes, the “land down under” should be up at the top of your travel list.

Best of all, you can get the true Aussie experience on a budget. We’ve planned out a 7-day itinerary for you and your loved ones to follow during your visit to Australia that will maximize fun without minimizing your bank account. Check out our guide to spending a week on the Gold Coast:

Day 1: Beach and a Barbe’

Ask anyone who’s ever lived or traveled to Australia and they’ll likely tell you the first thing you’ve got to do when you vacation on the Gold Coast is hit the beach. With literally dozens of beaches at your disposal, you’ll never have a bad place to lay down a blanket. Gold Coast has acclaimed beaches such as Burleigh Heads Beach, Surfer’s Paradise Beach, Coolangatta Beach, Snapper Rocks, and so much more.

Most of the beaches are public and close to other fun activities like national parks, restaurants, and night clubs. If you’re planning on traveling to Surfer’s Paradise, check out the SkyPoint Climb. Just find a place to park and you’ll be on track for having a first day full of relaxation, activity, or any combination of the two! Maybe bring a portable grill and have a barbecue!

Day 2: Walk on the Wildlife Side

The ecology is, of course, unique wherever you go in the country. But travel to Australia and you’ll find one of the richest, most distinct wildlife eco-systems in the world. Koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles, snakes, tropical birds, and other species native to Australia can be found the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Owned and operated by the National Trust of Australia (Queensland), the Sanctuary creates authentic bushland and rainforest settings which host a variety of cool species. Get an in-depth look at the indigenous culture and natural history of Australia through walking tours, segway tours, and interactive shows!

Day 3: Ticket to Thrill Ride

Gold Coast has a number of sweet theme parks to choose from, everything from Wet ‘n’ Wild Water World to the Rock Pools. For adults who are seeking just as much thrill as their kids, we recommend using your third day in at Dreamworld. With more than 40 rides and attractions available, you could spend the whole day trying out new rides or jumping back in line for one more go on your favorite one!

Load the day’s itinerary with fun activities like the Big 8 Thrill Rides, Wiggles World, the Dreamworks Experience, any of the parks fun live shows, Tiger Island, and more. Jump into your swimsuit and hit the White Water World for some soaking-good fun, enjoy an indigenous experience at Dreamworld Corroboree, and check out more than 500 native Australian animals all around the park.

Day 4: The National Parks

By day four, you may want to pace yourself financially. And that’s totally doable! There are plenty of great things to do and see around the Gold Coast that won’t cost you a dime. Whether you’re looking for some fresh air and a nice walk on a warm day, or you’re interested in taking some pictures for a photo album, we recommend checking out some of the national parks.

Several options are available when you visit Australia. The Springbrook National Park has beautiful waterfalls, places to camp, and tons of wildlife to see. The Burleigh Head National Park is good for a walk through the jungle to see some wild animals like bush turkeys and fish, and if you want to cool down in between your adventure, you can take a dip in the ocean along the way!

Day 5: The Indoors of Perception

When you visit Australia, your first instinct will be to spend as much time in the gorgeous weather as possible. But we all need a day off from the sun every now and then. That’s why for day 5, we recommend taking advantage of some of the great indoor activities available around the Gold Coast area.

Start with a classic. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is located near Surfer’s Paradise and offers 15 individually themed galleries where you’ll find some unbelievable exhibits and shows. After you’re done with the “ooo’s” and “ahh’s” , walk on over to the Infinity Attraction. Just a three minute walk down the street from Ripley’s, Infinity is a fun house style attraction which has guests traveling through 20 maze-like world’s. Lighted with special effects and illusions, you’ll expand your imagination and challenge your senses in ways you’ve never done before! Perfect for families with kids ages 8 and up.

Day 6: Water Sports Center

Can’t get enough of the water surrounding the Gold Coast? Spend the day trying out some of the area’s most extreme water sports. Embark on Paradise Jet Boating or Jetscream Jet Boating to stimulate the adrenaline junky in you while providing a complete safe, scenic tour of the Gold Coast waterways.

Looking for more fun? Try your hand at any of the extreme sports offered including FlyBoarding, Parasailing, Guided Jetski Tours, and more! Looking to explore the water but not a fan of intense travel? Head out on one of the Sailing Charter or Sunset Cruise expeditions.

Day 7: So Long Souvenirs

Got some money left over in your budget? Grab some souvenirs, clothes, or neat little knick knacks at the shopping centres and malls around the area. The shopping day is always best saved for the last day because that way, you can do all the activities and live all the experiences, and then use the leftover budget to buy the physical memories.

The Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre is a good start for affordable food, shopping, and entertainment. The strip is always a-bustle with activity and steps away from the beach—perfect for those looking to soak up the Aussie rays during their last day on the continent. Be on the lookout for other shopping centres around the area such as Robina Town Shopping Centre, Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, and the Oasis Shopping Centre.
