The Force is strong in Orlando.

Disney recently announced their intent to create a Star Wars theme park at their D23 Expo. Initial planning and concept art has been released for the park, and the buzz has already started to culminate with the December 2015 release of Star Wars: Episode VII, a Walt Disney Pictures film. Can Walt Disney World bring the same excitement that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter brought to the Universal Orlando Resort?

About the Disney Star Wars Park

Introduced as an extension to Walt Disney World’s existing Hollywood Studios theme park, the Star Wars section of the park will be the largest in Walt Disney World at 14 acres. Additionally, a twin park is planned for the Disneyland resort in Anaheim, which will likely feature its own signature attractions. The company is focusing on making the experience as immersive as possible for visitors, and will include a number of popular locations and features that any Star Wars fan will surely recognize. While specific park details have yet to be announced, Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, said:

“We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including at epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

Could Star Wars Timeshares Be Next?

Given the highly immersive plans for the newest Disney park, many are speculating whether or not the Disney Vacation Club will build on the Star Wars theme park excitement and offer vacation ownership packages within the park. It wouldn’t be the first time DVC did something like this—their Animal Kingdom villas are extremely popular among timeshare owners due to the proximity to the park’s wildlife and the themed accommodations. A massive opportunity definitely arises for DVC, the only question that remains is whether or not they’ll do it. At first glance, the upsides seem too high to ignore. Besides, who wouldn’t want to live in a Star Destroyer or Jabba’s Palace for a week?
